I had a fantastic morning at Marlow FM 97.5 talking all things music with the lovely Carla Delaney. I was invited to go and have a chat about our new children's 10 week "Make Me Musical" course which is due to start on Saturday 21st September. The course will be held at Dawkes and is aimed at children in school years 2 and 3, the children will be introduced to a new instrument each week and given the opportunity to have a go as well as well as to listen to a clip from a professional musician. The children will also be busy playing musical games that will introduce them to pitch, rhythm and musical notation. For more information please check out www.dawkes.co.uk/makememusical
While at the radio station I was busy chatting about My Music, about all the wonderful musicians we have in our groups and who take lessons with us. Carla was fascinated by an older gentleman who started to learn the saxophone at the age of 82, proving that age is nothing! Ron came along to meet us and wanted to learn to play Danny Boy on the saxophone to perform at a reunion he had coming up for retired service men. Twelve months later we were thrilled that Ron could make his ambition come to life and he played wonderfully.
My Music was created over 7 years ago with the idea that adults wanted an encouraging place to learn a musical instrument and get together and play in groups, with like minded people. I'm now thrilled to say we have six teachers on board and eight group sessions running along side all our individual lessons.
We hope that this morning we may have inspired a few more people to get into music and just "have a go"
